9 ft. High Rear Deck is Found to be Unsafe Synopsis We were asked to inspect the rear deck on this expensive home. We found that the 9 ft. high post supports are not large enough and inadequately braced. The 2 x 8 joists are too small for the spans. A key supporting beam is grossly undersized and could collapse when the deck is crowded with people.
