Garage Foundation Wall Cracks and Leans Outward

Synopsis

This 4 ft. high garage foundation wall was constructed with 8-inch concrete blocks. The cells in the blocks were not reinforced with vertical steel bars. In addition, the wall intersections were not tied together with joint reinforcement. As a result of these omissions, the foundation wall fails due to lateral pressure from the weight of the slab, automobiles, and the earth fill under the slab.
