Photos of Structural Defects

Intersection of hip rafters and ridge. Note lack of vertical brace. Valley rafter and common rafters are unsupported. The 2x4 purlins require additional braces. Note how purlin bows under the rafter load.

General view of roof support system. Note lack of supports at midspans of rafters. The girder should be supported on a pilaster and not the curtain wall. Shrinkage crack in the basement floor. Usually this is not a structural concern.

This dry-laid brick pier does not provide much support. The bottom concrete block in the pier is not solidly supported. The pier supports a heavily loaded steel beam. The pier only catches the corner of the girder. Girder should be in the middle third of the pier. The outer girder ply is not supported by the pier.
